About Me
Chris Livemore
In 2025, Chris found himself confined to the living room floor with a serious back injury. Unable to move, unable to work, but entirely able to make up stories for his young children. He began inventing bedtime adventures for his children each day when they came home from school and nursery, about knights, astronauts and fire ninjas!
Chris also rediscovered his love for medieval history, which is how the blog series that accompanies The Good Knight books was created.
Jack the Good Knight was born on that floor in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex in 2025. Fire Pud the Dragon came from Chris's two-year-old son, who remains the series' toughest critic. Princess Charlotte is inspired by his eldest, a fiercely independent, deeply kind five-year-old who has officially (self-)appointed herself Chief Humour Checker for all five books. They do a great job, but so far I have found them tougher to get ideas passed them than any publisher.
The youngest child is still waiting for his own character, but the sleep deprivation may need to subside somewhat before that happens!
Chris knows something about feeling small. He barely grew in height until university, and the experience left a lasting mark on confidence and self-esteem well into adulthood. Jack's quiet courage, refusal to be defined by what others think, and habit of doing the right thing when nobody is watching, none of that is accidental.
As it turned out, growing up had its adventures...
Chris lived on the South American plateau (Mount Roraima, Venezuela) that inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to write The Lost World - there are quite a few adventures from that trip that his mum doesn't know about, being held at gun point was one of them! He has scaled Kilimanjaro, run ultramarathons, was involved in a rather hairy emergency landing during a skydiving attempt (coincidentally on Friday 13th!) that cured his fear of flying, and has been chased by a shark in the English Channel and head butted by a seal in the Thames!
By day, Chris is a former lawyer turned sustainability consultant, founder of Ibex Earth, a not-for-profit that has helped secure more than £54 million in funding for European cities and towns. He has spent years working with leading environmental education charities, helping projects reach thousands of primary school pupils nationwide.
He remains deeply passionate about helping children learn about the world they're inheriting and how they can make a positive difference to our planet.
Useful work, certainly. But nowhere near as exciting as knights, fire-breathing dragons, unicorns and gigantic medieval snails!
Chris lives in Leigh-on-Sea with his amazing (and wonderfully patient) wife, three nocturnal children - which really explains the number of blogs that get written - and one dragon, who takes the dog-form of a Yorkiepoo who lives in a cave, breathes fire and chases pigeons for fun.
It is highly likely that Chris is currently lying down, thinking about his next story.
