THE GOOD
KNIGHT
Good morrow, how fare thee? Hello!

Say Hello
Say hello. Ask a question. Be part of Jack's Shield Wall.
Whether you're a parent looking for bedtime inspiration, a teacher who wants to bring Jack into the classroom, or a publisher who recognises a series when they see one, this is the right place.
👨👧 For Parents & Families
Questions, thoughts, shield wall incidents, all welcome.
Have a question about the books? Want to share how the ROOOOAR went down at bedtime? Has your two-year-old started using the word fopdoodle in public?
We want to hear from you.
The Shield Wall community is built on exactly this kind of conversation, parents, grandparents, carers and anyone else who believes bedtime stories should be worth showing up for.
The best place to connect is through the Shield Wall, where new articles, medieval insults, parenting stories of questionable judgment and publication updates land directly in your inbox.

🏫 For Teachers & Schools
Bringing Jack, Princess Charlotte and Fire Pud into the classroom.
THE GOOD KNIGHT series has been developed with primary school children in mind, tested for read-aloud engagement, paced for classroom performance, and built around themes that work beautifully as discussion starters.
We also want school children to be actively involved in shaping new adventures for Jack and his friends, after all Fire Pud the dragon came from the imagination of a two-year old!
The series covers:
-
Courage and resilience: doing the right thing even when it's hard
-
Empathy and kindness: understanding that the scary thing often just needs help
-
Teamwork and friendship: what you can achieve together that you can't alone
-
Fairness and integrity: why cheating never really wins
-
Honesty and accountability: owning your mistakes and making things right
Each book is between 600-800 words, written in rhyming couplets, and structured for twelve illustrated spreads, making them ideal for a single read-aloud session with time for discussion, or we could just build some shields for the classroom (you never know when you might need them for a Shield Wall to hide from a trow, a GIANT or even a dreaded Head Teacher!).
Chris works closely with schools and educational organisations through his sustainability consultancy Ibex Earth, and has existing relationships with leading environmental education charities working directly with primary schools nationwide. He is available for school visits, reading events and author Q&A sessions.
If you're a teacher, librarian or school coordinator interested in THE GOOD KNIGHT for your classroom or school library, or if you'd like to discuss a visit, get in touch directly.
📬 For Publishers & Literary Agents
A complete picture book series. Ready for the right partner.
THE GOOD KNIGHT is a fully developed series of five rhyming picture books for ages 3–7, built for read-aloud performance and designed to bring more dads into the bedtime routine.
All five manuscripts are complete, structurally aligned as a series, editorially refined, and tested for read-aloud rhythm, pacing and engagement.
The series combines:
-
Commercially proven themes: knights, dragons, tournaments, fairy tales, beanstalk adventures
-
A clear social mission: increasing father engagement in early literacy, supported by published research
-
Strong character continuity: a developed ensemble cast across all five titles
-
Built-in series architecture: each book standalone, all five rewarding the reader who starts from the beginning
This is not a single manuscript submission. It is a ready-to-launch series with depth, range and long-term potential (another five books have already been drafted!).
Why it stands out:
-
Written specifically for read-aloud performance, every sound effect, pause and comic beat is designed to reward the person doing the reading as much as the child being read to
-
Designed to appeal to both the child and the adult in the room, a rare and commercially valuable quality in the picture book market
-
Anchored in evidence-backed insight around father engagement in early literacy, a genuine, underserved gap in the current market
-
Balances humour, heart and repeat-read value across five complete, consistent titles
-
Supported by an active author platform, Jack's Shield Wall community, blog content, school engagement and social media presence in development
The 'Side Quest' in one paragraph:
Only 42% of parents who read to their children daily are dads. University of Leeds research shows that even ten minutes a night makes a measurable difference to a child's development, yet the children's book market remains predominantly shaped by and marketed to mothers.
THE GOOD KNIGHT was deliberately designed to close that gap, with adventure subjects, comic performance and a moral philosophy that speaks directly to the dad in the room. It is, as far as the author is aware, the only picture book series built explicitly around this mission with the research, the platform and the manuscripts to back it up.
